I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Queensland under the supervision of Phil Hugenholtz and Gene Tyson. My PhD was conducted under the supervision of Robert Beiko in the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University. I was previously a member of the Human Communication Technologies Laboratory at UBC and the Content-Based Image Retrieval Group at McGill.
My research interests include bioinformatics, computer vision, machine learning, and information visualization. Currently, my research is focused on developing methods for recovering genomes from metagenomic data, expanding the microbial tree of life, and exploring the diversity and metabolic function of microbial communities residing in coal seam gas wells.
